Easter 2008

Easter Sunday was our last day in Big Bend National Park. I have to admit I've never, in my life, not been in church on an Easter morning. But I also know that wherever we worship is our church. And we would most certainly take the time to worship as we remembered the risen Christ. For a Christian Easter is holy day that matters. At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the coming of the King. But without Easter His coming counted for little. It was His death and resurrection that saves us and is the cornerstone of our faith. I've often attended sunrise services...there's something special about beginning the day in worship. I thought it would be special to do that together as a family.....but, well, the day did not work with us. We woke up in a cloud...literally....a cold, wet cloud engulfed the mountains that morning. John and the boys decided to walk up the trail behing the cottage to see if they could get above the cloud layer and to look for any wildlife....well, they never made it out of the cloud but they did see a very scary bunny....

I, still feeling somewhat icky from the cold, stayed in bed until the guys returned. Then I donned my sweater and Easter bonnet (sun hat that also helps keep warmth in) and we set out for our final hike of the trip.
We drove down out the the mountains to the desert. The weather was still cold but not so wet. After a few hours we again saw blue skies and the temperature warmed up.

We had talked to a lot of locals during our stay and asked them what their favorite hike was. A lot of people would quietly tell us to go to Cattail Falls. It isn't listed on any of the trail maps or guides but it is a well maintained trail and a local favorite. So we got directions and we were off!
